ஆஸாத் சாலி உடனடியாக விடுவிக்கப்படவேண்டும் அல்லது   அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட சர்வதேச சட்டத்துக்கு அமைவாக அவர்மீது குற்றச்சாட்டப்படல்  வேண்டும் என்று அம்னெஸ்டி இண்டர்நேஷனல் தெரிவித்துள்ளது .”ஆசாத் சாலியின்  கைது, மற்றும் அவர் கடந்த வாரங்களில் சந்தித்துள்ள  துன்புறுத்தல், இலங்கையின் அரசாங்கத்தை விமர்சிப்பவர்கள் பயமான   சூழ்நிலையின்   கீழ் வாழ தள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளனர் என்பதை காட்டுவதாக அந்த அமைப்பு மேலும்  தெரிவித்துள்ளது . இந்த தகவலை  அம்னெஸ்டி இண்டர்நேஷனல் ஆசிய பசிபிக் துணை இயக்குனர் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார் .

அரசாங்க   எதிர் விமர்சகர்களையும் அதிருப்தியாளர்களையும் இலங்கை அரசாங்கம் துன்புறுத்துவதாகவும், சிறையில் அடைப்பதாகவும் குற்றம்சாட்டி அம்னெஸ்டி இண்டர்நேஷனல்  கடந்த வாரமும் அறிக்கை ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டுள்ளமையும் சுட்டிக்காட்டத்தக்கது.

ஆஸாத் சாலி இலங்கையில் சிறுபான்மை முஸ்லிம் ,கிறித்தவ சமையங்களுக்கு எதிராக செயல்பட்டு வரும் கடும்போக்கு பெளத்த அமைப்புக்களுக்கு எதிராக துணிவுடன் சாவல் விட்டுவரும் ஒரே முஸ்லிம் அரசியல்வாதிவாதியாக முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தால் நோக்கப்படுகிறார்.

“Azad Sally’s arrest, and the harassment he has faced over the past weeks, is indicative of the climate of fear government critics in Sri Lanka are forced to live under. He must be released immediately or charged with an internationally recognisable criminal offence,” said Polly Truscott, Amnesty International’s Deputy Asia Pacific Director.

“He has been campaigning to end oppressive practices against minorities in Sri Lanka, in particular Muslims and Tamils, for which he has faced the ire of the Sri Lankan government,” AI said.

“Sally appears to be the latest victim in the intensifying crackdown on dissenting views we have seen in recent years, motivated by the government’s desire to tighten its grip on power. Journalists, the judiciary, human rights workers and opposition politicians like Sally are among those who have been targeted through threats, harassment and vicious violent attacks.”

“Commonwealth leaders must take a stronger stand against the government’s violent repression of dissent and its persistent failure to bring to justice those responsible for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity,” said Truscott.
